Over at The Music Memoirs they're asking about Disney tunes, namely:What is your favorite song from a Disney Movie?
Hard to narrow it down to one. "Baby Mine" from Dumbo, "The Second Star To The Right" from Peter Pan, and "Part Of Your World" from The Little Mermaid spring to mind, but I'll go with "Santa Fe" from Newsies.
Do you like any of the current crop of Disney pop stars?
No, but I don't particularly dislike any either.
Old school Disney music or new and why?
Well, I'd have to say old school Disney but that's because there's 60 years of classics there which people have grown up with compared against today's output, so the comparison seems unfair. Like all things it goes in peaks and troughs (I'm hard pressed to think of a good Disney song in the two decades or so between The Aristocrats and The Little Mermaid). There's definitely still good Disney music now (Enchanted had some good songs, and so did the first High School Musical for that matter).

I was going to say "Once Upon a December" (a great, if rather slow, Viennese Waltz), but then I remembered that Anastasia wasn't a Disney film ... oops, I said it anyway!
"Happy Working Song" from Enchanted was a hoot! I loved that movie ...
When you wish upon a star.....I like the old stuff much better than most of the new.

I was never big on The Little Mermaid, for some reason. I like it, but I don't know.
And in response to the comment you left me, for some reason I've always had a love of "Something There". I really can't explain it. That movie has so many great songs & that's the one that sticks with me :)

You're right... it wasn't much memorable Disney music between 1971 and 1988. I was watching a Disney documentary recently that showed a clip of Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I hope to someday catch it in its entirety because the story and the music seem to be above average.

Mistress of the Dark - Should perhaps mention that I only really started liking second star from the right after I heard James Taylor's version on the Stay Awake album, it hadn't really registered with me when I saw Peter Pan. Not sure I'd have picked that song from Lady & The Tramp (though it's a great song admittedly) just because it seems a bit too much of a novelty song (then again, I almost picked Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, just because it must have seemed like such a risk at the time naming a song after a long hard-to-pronounce made-up word).

Dennis the Vizsla - If I was to pick a song from a non-Disney animation, Id have gone for "Somewhere Out There" from An American Tail (then again, I've never seen Anastasia. Have to catch it the next time it shows up on TV). Agree with you totally about Enchanted and "Happy Working Song".
Queen-Size funny bone - Almost mentioned When you wish upon a star myself, along with tons of other old stuff (Whistle While You Work, Give A Little Whistle, Pink Elephants on Parade, Little April Showers). There was a ridiculous number to choose from, thinking about it.
The Bumbles - Yeah, lots of great Peggu Lee songs on Lady & the Tramp. Not that much of a fan of The Lion King myself (probably because of the Ashman/Menken songs on the previous films it had to follow).
Lord Mhoram - Nothing wrong with being an outsider. Some of the coolest people are outsiders.
Janelle - Thanks for the comment. I really like The Little Mermaid myself, but I do prefer Beauty and The Beast as a film so I can see where you're coming from.
Mimi Lenox - Agree with you totally on Beauty and the Beast (some great songs there; Belle's probably my favourite). Not so sure about Aladdin myself (although that might just be becuase it seemed a bit of a letdown after Beauty & the Beast).
Malcolm - Bedknobs and Broomsticks is okay. The bits which mix live action and animation work best from what I can remember. Sort of a Mary Poppins Lite.
