Monday Movie Meme

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

This week Molly and Andy at the Bumbles Blog are asking for the best war movies, so, despite my hardly ever watching such movies, here's my pick:

La Grande Illusion (1937)

The Dambusters (1955)

The Great Escape (1963)

Doctor Strangelove (1964)

Apocalypse Now (1979)

Great selection--I'd add Saving Private Ryan to the list.

Thanks for introducing us to 2 new titles - have not heard of or seen the first 2 on your list. Will look forward to checking those out. Love all your others.

If I could recommend only 1 movie on our list for you to watch - it would be Bridge on the River Kwai. I think you would enjoy that one.

Oh! I'd forgotten Dr. Strangelove! Dr. Strangelove is as funny as it is absurd. Love it. Now that I'm thinking war comedies, I should have included Duck Soup, too! (Hail, hail Freedonia!)

Oh these are old films but surely classics! I have my list too but only some recent ones and I stick with only 5 things (as per my whole blog set up) so anyway, I hope you visit some time.

Thanks for the comment.

NurseExec - I might have done but I appear to be the only person who's never seen it.

The Bumbles - La Grande Illusion is definitely worth watching, although Dambusters is just one of those films that's always being shown in the UK so I remember watching it numerous times as a kid so you could probably skip that (although the music's terrific). Thanks for the recommendation - I'll try and catch it the next time it's on television.

The Gal Herself - On the war comedies front, I almost included MASH and Hot Shots, Part Deux.

Daisy - I popped over but hadn't seen any of your five, so there didn't seem to be much I could say by way of comment. Hopefully next week I'll have seen some of your choices.

A Blog In The Rough - Ditto. Hopefully next week's genre will be more to our taste.
